It only took three days for the first large-scale quarantine of the school year to take place at Coral Academy of Science.
Parents of students at the school were notified the second week of August that there were two positive cases at the school, causing 50 people to quarantine as a result, KTNV reported.
Feven Kay of FOX5 News commented on the first incident via Twitter.
"On Day 3 of the new school year, parents at Coral Academy of Science Las Vegas were notified that a student attending in-person class tested positive for COVID. Now 24 students are under quarantine," Kay wrote.
Parents were told that a single positive case had been uncovered Aug. 11. Through contact tracing, it was determined that 24 students needed to self-quarantine as a result of the positive case. Then a second positive case was found, causing an additional 26 students to quarantine.
Coral Academy is a public charter school with students ranging from fifth grade through ninth grade. As a result, some of the student body is not eligible for COVID-19 vaccination.
"We will continue to monitor the situation with pristine detail to ensure the health and safety of our students and staff remain top priority," Ercan Aydogdu, executive director and CEO of Coral Academy, said in a message to families on Aug. 11, News 3 reported.
