Nominations for the 2025 African American Trailblazer Service Awards will open on September 30, 2024, and close on October 18, 2024. These awards recognize residents of the Las Vegas valley who have made significant civic contributions in various categories.
The Business and Economic Advancement Award acknowledges local business professionals who exhibit entrepreneurial spirit, high standards, innovative practices, and community support. The Community Activism and Politics Award honors individuals who advocate, organize citizens, and influence public policy to improve community life.
The Educator Award celebrates teachers, instructors, or school administrators who excel in mentoring and guiding students to achieve their potential. The Tyrone Thompson Emerging Leader Award recognizes an up-and-coming individual committed to leadership with potential for innovation and positive influence.
The Spiritual Community Award is given to a spiritual leader promoting growth and engagement across organizational boundaries through inspired action.
Self-nominations are not permitted. Nominations can be submitted at www.lasvegasnevada.gov/trailblazeraward by completing the electronic form; biographies are not accepted as substitutes. Only one nomination per person is allowed.
The awards presentation will take place on January 23, 2025, from 9-11:30 a.m. at Las Vegas City Hall Council Chambers during Black History Month celebrations. The city has been celebrating Black History Month for 46 years.
