Gov. Steve Sisolak (D-NV) recently ordered flags to be flown at half-staff in honor of a law enforcement official who died on June 10.

According to a news release shared by the Nevada government, flags of the United States and the State of Nevada were flown at half-staff at the State Capitol and other public buildings in memory of Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department Detective Justin Terry on June 20.

According to Sisolak: “Kathy and I join the law enforcement community and so many more in mourning Detective Justin Terry, who was killed tragically. We're sending our love and prayers to his family and friends during this difficult time.”

A member of the LVPD for roughly 21 years, Terry established a system to help aid the homeless by having officers utilize dirt bikes to serve them, according to Metro. In addition, Terry was part of the Sex Offender Apprehension Squad for seven years and worked directly with the U.S. Marshals task force.

“Today, I ordered the flags to be lowered to half-staff in honor of Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Det. Justin Terry, from sunrise until sunset on Monday. Detective Terry served our community for more than two decades – we are grateful for his service and heartbroken at his death,” wrote Sisolak on Twitter.
