When it comes to solar energy, Nevada is the nation's shining light, Gov. Steve Sisolak said.
“Nevada leads the nation in terms of solar production, and we’re going to continue to bring all the stakeholders to the table to ensure we are protecting our environment, combating climate change and creating good-paying union jobs for our clean energy economy,” the governor said in a release.
Nevada has the most solar jobs in the nation per 1,000 non-farm sector jobs, according to the Solar Energy Industries Association, according to the Solar Energy Industries Association.
Nevada has 4.5 solar jobs per 1,000 non-farm jobs and has 75,379 installations, according to the release.
"Thanks to partial tax abatements and our state’s abundant sunshine, Nevada is committed to investing in our clean energy economy," the release said.
It highlighted bills signed into law last year such as SB448 which provides funding for clean energy transmission, energy efficiency programs and electric vehicle charging stations. Another bill, SB430, provided $75 million for the state's Infrastructure Bank for water and electric grid projects.
Although Nevada has no oil or natural gas deposits, it does have abundant sunlight, geothermal energy and wind, state Sen. Chris Brooks, (D-Las Vegas), sponsor of SB448, said last year, the Nevada Appeal reported.
The legislation capitalizes "Nevada’s regional position in the U.S. to really make us a hub for this new energy economy," Brooks said, the Appeal reported.
