COVID-19 cases are surging in Nevada as unvaccinated patients push hospitals toward capacity, according to recent reports.
The state reported 1,552 new COVID-19 cases and 21 deaths Sept.10, raising the two-week rolling average of new daily cases for the first time in a week, KUNR reported Sept. 13.
Twitter user Christopher Shaker shared a graph Sept. 19 depicting the increasing daily trend of COVID-19 deaths in the state as cases continue to rise.
“Nevada's COVID death rate not looking great, either?” Shaker wrote in his tweet.
As of Sept. 10, masks are required indoors regardless of vaccination status in all Nevada counties, KUNR reported. This comes following Centers for Disease Control and Prevention guidance that states masks should be worn indoors in all counties with substantial or high levels of transmission.
A News 4 report highlighted a Nevada Hospital Association report that this surge in cases has led most northern Nevada hospitals to be at capacity. According to the report, this has led to the death of at least one patient who couldn't get access to an intensive care unit for nine hours.
A majority of cases that have come to the hospital have come from unvaccinated patients, News 4 reported.
