The city of Las Vegas is inviting the community to participate in a series of events to celebrate Black History Month during January and February. The city has been involved in Black History Month activities for 46 years. Note that Las Vegas facilities will be closed on February 17 for Presidents’ Day, and all events are subject to change.

One event, "Finding My Heritage: Cherokee Freedmen, A Visual Account," an exhibition by Donald Corpier Starr, is open until February 28 at the West Las Vegas Arts Center Community Gallery. It explores the history of Cherokee Freedmen, who were former black slaves of the Cherokee Nation. For more information, call 702.229.4800.

A youth basketball tournament will take place from January 22-24 at Doolittle Community Center as part of Peace Week 2025. This event is free for spectators. Additional details can be obtained by calling 702.229.6374.

The "11th Annual African American Trailblazer Service Awards" will occur on January 23 at Las Vegas City Hall Council Chambers to honor African American leaders in the community. RSVP is required due to limited space; call 702.229.3401.

On February 6, a Good Time Catfish Fry will be held at Doolittle Active Adult Center with tickets priced at $10 each.

Contemporary West Dance Theatre’s Black History Month Celebration features performances on February 7 and 8 at Charleston Heights Arts Center with tickets ranging from $15-$30.

An exhibition titled "African American Heritage Month Exhibition: People of Color," curated by Brent Holmes, runs from February 10-August 7 at Las Vegas City Hall Chamber Gallery showcasing African diasporic artists throughout Nevada.

"The Corner presents Love’s Canvas" takes place on February 14 at West Las Vegas Arts Center featuring poetry, music, and spoken word hosted by Willie “Saucey Downs” Williams III.

The "46th Annual Mid-Day Inspirational Showcase & Luncheon" occurs on February 20 at Historic Fifth Street School offering a showcase followed by a soul food brunch requiring tickets available only through Doolittle Active Adult Center.

"Black Weekend 2025: Kemet in the Desert," scheduled for February 21-22 at West Las Vegas Library Theatre includes lectures and cultural celebrations co-presented with various partners including Platinum Productions and Executive Director Oscar Robinson hosting this series honoring KITD founder Franklyn G. Verley III.

A Generation-to-Generation Softball Game happens on February 22 at Kianga Isoke Palacio Park followed by a Master African Dance/Drumming Workshop taught by Wilfried Souly also occurring that day with registration required in advance costing $20 per participant.
