More than 400,000 people are expected to attend New Year's Eve celebrations on the Strip and in downtown Las Vegas. The Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority has projected $411.4 million in visitor spending for the long weekend, with a total economic impact of $727 million.
To ensure safety during the festivities, several measures will be implemented. Glass and metal containers, coolers, strollers, and bags larger than 12x12x6 inches are prohibited on the Strip and downtown. This includes backpacks, purses, and luggage. A curfew will also be enforced for minors under 18 without a parent in these areas.
Residents and visitors are encouraged to report any suspicious activity by calling 702-828-7777 or notifying a nearby officer. I-15 off-ramps at Flamingo Road and Tropicana Avenue will close at 5:30 p.m., followed by road closures on Las Vegas Boulevard from Spring Mountain Road to Reno Avenue starting at 6:30 p.m. The Strip will be closed to vehicle traffic by 8 p.m., with real-time updates available via the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department's social media accounts.
The National Guard, local law enforcement agencies, including the city of Las Vegas' Department of Public Safety, will collaborate with Metro Police to maintain safety. Officers will patrol neighborhoods that night as well; illegal fireworks should be reported by calling 3-1-1 instead of tying up emergency lines.
Operation S.A.F.E.R.—Stronger Alliance For Enforcement and Relationships—has been implemented by the Department of Public Safety to prevent crime in tourist corridors through data-driven strategies and community partnerships.
Fireworks by Grucci is set to present a midnight fireworks display from multiple locations including ARIA Resort & Casino, Caesars Palace, MGM Grand Hotel & Casino among others. Over 11,000 electrical devices will power this eight-minute show.
