Las Vegas announces National Hispanic Heritage Month celebrations

The city of Las Vegas will celebrate National Hispanic Heritage Month, inviting residents to enjoy family-friendly events that capture the essence of Latino culture. A variety of events will be hosted through December 7, 2024, although all activities are subject to change. Parents can subscribe for a monthly email or text LV PARENTS to 468-311 for information on upcoming events and activities for their children. A Spanish newsletter is also available. City centers will be closed on September 2, October 25, November 11, and November 28-29 for holiday observance.

Food Truck Thursdays will take place on September 12 and September 26 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at 100 E. Clark Ave., across from Municipal Court. The event will feature Latin flavors with food trucks such as Charlie’s Chamangos on September 12 and Empanadas702 on September 26.

On Friday, September 13 at 5 p.m., "Patrias Mexicana: Voces de Unión y Libertad" will be held at the West Las Vegas Arts Center Amphitheatre, located at 947 W. Lake Mead Blvd. This cultural celebration marking Mexico’s independence will include traditional mariachi music performed by various ensembles.

Later that evening, a Concert in the Park featuring Nathan Brian Wine and the Las Vegas Jazz Ensemble will occur at Centennial Hills Park Amphitheatre, located at 7101 N. Buffalo Drive, starting at 7 p.m.

El Grito: Celebrating the Independence of Mexico is scheduled for Saturday, September 14 from noon to 4 p.m. at the East Las Vegas Community Center, located at 250 N. Eastern Ave. This community resource fair will offer live entertainment and children's activities.

The Latin American Countries' Independence Celebration will take place on Saturday, September 21 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., also at the East Las Vegas Community Center.

The HONOR Latino Awards ceremony will recognize community leaders who have made significant civic contributions to Las Vegas. Nominations close on September 30, and more details are available online.

The XXIV Binational Health Fair is set for Saturday, October 5 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., offering free health services at the East Las Vegas Community Center.

Once Upon a Quinceañera celebration will be held on Saturday, October 12 from 5-8:30 p.m., also at the East Las Vegas Community Center.

The Las Vegas Book Festival is scheduled for Saturday, October 19 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., featuring bilingual discussions and workshops at Historic Fifth Street School.

Earth Beats: Capoeira Nights with artist Gustavo Caldas will take place on Friday, October 25 at Stewart Place Park.

A Sugar Skull Workshop focusing on Dia de los Muertos customs is planned for Saturday, October 26 from1-3 p.m.at Charleston Heights Arts Center.

The Dia De Los Muertos Festival is slated for Saturday, November2from3-9p.m.at Sammy Davis Jr.Festival Plaza in Lorenzi Park.This event celebrates life with entertainment and cultural activities honoring those who have passed away.

Mexican Mythologies: Past and Present Exhibition runs from Thursday November7to January16at Historic Fifth Street School Mayor's Gallery.It explores ancient Mexican mythologies through contemporary art works

Finally,the Tamales and Mariachi Festival takes place on December7from10a m.to4p m.at Historic Fifth Street School.The festival features tamales,mariachi music,and folklorico dance performances among other attractions
