The dean of the University of Nevada, Reno’s Reynolds School of Journalism was honored at the 26th annual Hall of Fame Gala of the Nevada Broadcasters Association (NVBA).
According to a news release shared by the university, Alan Stavitsky was enshrined into the association's Hall of Fame for his prestigious career as the longest serving dean in school history.
"Dean Stavitsky's induction into the Nevada Broadcasting Association Hall of Fame speaks to his distinguished career in broadcasting and his commitment to journalistic excellence in Nevada,” UNR Executive Vice President and Provost Jeff Thompson said in the release. “I'm delighted that he received this well-deserved honor."
The NVBA Hall of Fame was established in 1996 to recognize career longevity within Nevada’s broadcasters who have been in the field for a minimum of 20 years.
Moreover, Stavitsky began his career while he was a high school student in New Jersey more than 40 years ago. Under his leadership, Reynolds School has racked up a multitude of awards including the Association for Education in Journalism and Mass Communication's Equity and Diversity Award and the Online News Association's Grand Prize for Innovation in Journalism Education.
Stavitsky has also led the public radio stations for the University of Nevada, Reno: KUNR, KNCJ and KNCC in Elko over the past decade and is a member of the Nevada Broadcasters Foundation Board of Directors, and the Library of Congress's Distinguished Scholar for radio history.
