Michael Naft, the Clark County commissioner, and delegates from the Nevada Donor Network recently replaced the "Welcome to Fabulous Las Vegas" sign's lights with blue and green bulbs.
The change is in honor of National Donate Life Month and Blue and Green Day with the purpose of motivating Nevadans to register as organ, tissue and eye donors, Clark County reported in a release.
"More than 100,000 Americans including almost 600 of our fellow Nevadans are waiting for an organ transplant, and the need grows every day," Naft said in the release. "But we all have the power to help transform a life. One organ, eye, and tissue donor can save and heal more than 75 people, which is why we encourage everyone to consider becoming a donor today."
The Nevada Donor Network is a nonprofit institution dedicated to facilitating organ and tissue donation and procurement in order to give people in need better health and quality of life, Clark County reported. The organization was established in 1987 and serves more than 3 million Nevadans and 100,000 possible transplant recipients nationwide.
The institution partners with hospitals and other community organizations to foster research and provide resources and support to families who have lost a loved donor, Clark County reported. For more information, visit the Nevada Donor Network's site.
