County of Clark issued the following announcement.
Motorists are advised of expected traffic delays on Spring Mountain Road/Sands Avenue between Mel Torme Way and Koval Lane as construction continues on Phase B of the Las Vegas Boulevard Improvement Project.
Work begins today on the westbound lanes of Sands Avenue from Koval Lane to the Las Vegas Strip. The construction of utilities and paving will primarily be done from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. Sunday nights through Friday mornings. Work in areas on Las Vegas Boulevard will occur between 2 a.m. to 10 a.m. During non-construction hours, westbound traffic will be reopened to two travel lanes during the day.
The westbound side of the Sands Avenue will be constructed first, with that part of the roadway limited to one travel lane during construction in the overnight hours. Work will switch to the eastbound side of Sands Avenue after construction is complete on the westbound side. This construction work is expected to last approximately 100 days with traffic delays occurring throughout the duration of the project. Work on the eastbound side of Spring Mountain Road, west of Las Vegas Blvd. to the I-15 exit ramp, will start after the first stage of work along Sands Avenue is finished.
Improvements being made as part of the project include storm drain replacement, upgrades to communications and power infrastructure, traffic signal modifications, bus turn-out modifications and new pavement, signs and markings. The Las Vegas Boulevard – Phase B project is part of an overall plan to rebuild infrastructure throughout the resort corridor.
