VR|AR Meet-Up attendees will had the an opportunity to experience hands-on research demonstrations inside the @Reality lab. | University Nevada, Reno
The University of Nevada, Reno’s @One Digital Media & Technology Center VR | AR Meet-Up event was held on Oct. 21.
The event was held at the Mathewson-IGT Knowledge Center with tech enthusiasts ranging from faculty to students learning how academic classrooms can benefit from technology, according to a news release shared by the university.
“The libraries started hosting the Meet-Up in 2016 when VR was becoming a more popular and accessible technology,” @One Interim Director Daniel Fergus said in the release. “At that time there were different researchers getting into and using the technology, but no one had any idea who was using it and what academic unit they were in. We organized the meet-up to break down silos, open channels of communication between individuals with similar interests and seek ways to identify interdisciplinary research opportunities.”
Those in attendance received instructions on developments that engage VR and AR technologies. @Reality had four spaces for the Valve Index and Oculus VR programs, where participants can study with and cultivate engaging content.
An additional presentation by professors Paul MacNeilage from psychology and Eelke Folmer from computer science and engineering showcased the National Science Foundation development that studied the phenomenology of why people experience virtual reality sickness.
