Las Vegas began Lunar New Year celebrations in February.
Las Vegas said goodbye to the Year of the Ox and welcomed the Year of the Tiger on the Lunar New Year celebration on Feb. 1, according to 8 News Now.
"As Nevada welcomes the #YearOfTheTiger, we could not be more proud to celebrate the amazing heritage, rich history and prominent contributions the AAPI (Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders) community continues to bestow upon our Silver State every day," Gov. Steve Sisolak said in a tweet.
Lunar New Year relates to Chinese culture but many Asian countries celebrate it, according to 8 News Now.
Vietnamese culture celebrates this major holiday and calls it Tet which is a short name that means Feast of the First Morning, according to 8 News Now.
There are more than 40,000 Vietnamese people in Las Vegas and that number is growing.
“Everyone wants the whole year happy," Kim Dung Ho of Viet Nevada Culture said, according to 8 News Now. "They have to be happy on the first day otherwise it’s not good. Everyone is happy, they will say lots of wishes to you. Health, more money, everything good and happy in the Tet festival."
