Tucked into a cluster of small businesses in Ward 6, Vibes Do-It-Yourself Studio has become a space where residents can explore creativity and connect with others. The studio offers activities such as paint pouring and rug tufting, welcoming participants of all ages and skill levels.
Recently, Councilwoman Nancy Brune and Mayor Shelley Berkley visited the studio to observe its offerings. Owner Mary Beth, who transitioned from a corporate accounting career to open the business with her daughter during the pandemic, described how their shared interest grew into a family venture. “We’ve always been creative,” she said. “We combined rug tufting and painting, and three months later, we were open.”
Mary Beth highlighted the importance of community support for local businesses: “It’s been a hard year on our street,” she said, “but the community has really been showing up these last couple of months, and we’re so grateful.”
The studio features non-traditional canvases—such as bears or rugs—and provides both detailed hand painting options and free-flowing paint pour techniques. Rug tufting is one of its distinctive activities; it allows visitors to use specialized tools to create custom textile designs.
A visitor commented on the experience: “It’s therapeutic. You tap into that creative side of your brain and discover talents you didn’t even know you had.”
Vibes DIY Studio aims to offer more than art-making by providing a place for families, friends, and neighbors to try new activities together. The area around the studio is known for its walkable layout and sense of community.
Las Vegas itself operates under a council-manager government structure with an elected mayor and city council (official government page). The city covers 142 square miles in Nevada (official website) and attracts over 41 million visitors annually while maintaining about 130 parks and facilities (official website).
As Vibes DIY Studio continues to develop its presence in Ward 6, it serves as an example of how small businesses contribute to neighborhood identity in Las Vegas.
