A University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV) “star undergrad” was recently selected to present her research at the 2022 Fall Symposium.

According to a UNLV press release, Emily Huerta is a standout undergraduate who was among more than 200 undergraduates that were chosen to present their research projects at the Fall 2022 Undergraduate Research Symposium which took place on Dec. 9. This was Huerta’s second time presenting at the symposium, but this year she was able to make her presentation in purpose as last year’s event was virtual.

“It’s a little nerve-wracking,” Huerta said before the symposium, according to the press release. “Last time, the symposium was virtual, and I had to send in a recorded video, but I’m ready for this format. I’ve completed my poster, and I’m in the process of completing my manuscript. It’s down to the final touches.”

Huerta, a UNLV senior majoring in physics and astronomy major, presented her research on fast radio bursts. She is in her sixth year at UNLV and has the goal of becoming a space scientist. She is also considering going to graduate school to earn a master’s degree in higher education administration.

At the Fall 2022 Undergraduate Research Symposium, 212 undergraduate researchers presented 147 co-authored research projects, reflecting research at various stages.
