Las Vegas is seeing a younger demographic among its visitors, as shown in the 2023 annual visitor profile study by the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority. Millennials have become the dominant age group visiting the city. The 30-to-49-year-old demographic grew significantly, rising from 43.7 percent of visitors in 2019 to 58.0 percent in 2023.

In terms of spending habits, there has been a noticeable shift away from gambling toward other activities. While four out of five visitors still engaged in gambling, the average time spent gaming decreased by 9.5 percent from 2022 and by 12.2 percent compared to 2019. Gambling budgets saw a slight decline of 3.5 percent to $787 last year.

Despite this dip in gambling expenditure, spending on other activities such as food, drink, shopping, and sightseeing increased substantially. In 2023, the average room rate climbed to $172—a rise of 11.6 percent from the previous year and a notable increase of 50.4 percent since 2019. Combined per-trip spending for food, drink, shopping, and sightseeing reached $1,410 in 2023, marking a growth of 13.1 percent over the previous year and an increase of 38.5 percent since 2019.

Sporting events and shows have emerged as significant attractions for younger visitors, particularly Generation Z who showed higher attendance rates at these events than older generations.

Convention attendance is also recovering post-pandemic with nearly six million attendees in 2023 accounting for 9.3 percent of total visitors. These attendees spent less on gambling but more on rooms, food, and sporting events compared to broader visitor averages.

Southern California remains the primary source of Las Vegas visitors with an increasing share reaching 31.5 percent in 2023 up from previous years.

The Southern Nevada tourism industry continues to adapt to changing consumer preferences with new entertainment options and attractions being developed.
