Chances are new Las Vegas Raiders interim head coach Rich Bisaccia made quite the impression on team super fan Harry Burks on Sunday.
In his first game since taking over for Jon Gruden, who tendered his resignation after being implicated in a still simmering email scandal, Bisaccia led the visiting Raiders to a 34-24 win over the Denver Broncos, snapping a two-game losing streak and improving the team to 4-2 overall.
The 61-year-old Bisaccia was a member of Gruden’s staff, serving as assistant head coach/special teams’ coordinator.
“I'm looking forward to our interim head coach Rich Bisaccia speaking tomorrow to the media #RaiderNation,” Burks tweeted soon after Bisaccia was installed. “To be honest, I don't know much about him, but I'm willing to see what he can do now that he's going to be leading this team. Let's hope he'll do alright for us for the year”
The Broncos game was the first for Bicassia as a head coach on any level.
"Once you get on the field and the game goes, a lot of my responsibilities were the same,” Bicassia told the Washington Post. “There was a pretty good dialogue between myself and (offensive coordinator Greg Olson), and myself and Gus (Bradley, defensive coordinator). ... It was really a collective effort going through the game.”
Quarterback Derek Carr completed 18 of 27 passes for 341 yards and two touchdowns to lead the Raiders, who jumped out to a 31-10- lead. Kenyan Drake had two scores and Henry Ruggs had a 48-yard scoring catch.
On defense, the Raiders forced four turnovers and Maxx Crosby had three sacks.
Bisaccia joins Art Shell as the only two in-season replacements in Raiders’ history to win their debuts.
The raiders host the Philadelphia Eagles next before the team’s bye week falls.
