CLARK CITY: Residents Invited to Meetings to Provide Input on Local Recovery Plan

Meeting

Clark City issued the following announcement.

Local residents are invited to a series of neighborhood meetings to provide input as Clark County formulates a Local Recovery Plan that seeks to achieve lasting, measurable community improvements. These meetings supplement this community survey as well as a series of public stakeholder meetings being held at the Clark County Government Center.

Clark County Commissioners Jim Gibson and Tick Segerblom will host a neighborhood meeting on the American Rescue Plan Act on Monday, July 19, at 6 p.m. at Paradise Recreation Center, 4775 S. McLeod Dr. in Las Vegas.

Residents are asked to provide input on the impacts of the pandemic and barriers to recovery and on how to spend federal funds as part of a plan to target underserved populations and those disproportionately affected by the pandemic. Residents will be asked questions such as:

  • How did the pandemic affect your family, neighbors, neighborhood and/or business?
  • What types of assistance would have been helpful to overcome these challenges?
  • Are there forms of assistance that will reduce the burdens of the pandemic?
  • Are there other forms of assistance that will solve the root causes of these challenges?
  • What hasn’t been shared that you would like us to know?
“These funds provide a unique opportunity to address not just the immediate needs of Clark County households, but also some fundamental shortcomings with affordable housing, healthcare and other deficiencies that affect our ability to achieve a full recovery for Southern Nevada,” said Commission Vice Chairman Gibson.

Additional neighborhood meetings include:

  • Thursday, July 22, 5:30 to 7 p.m. with Las Vegas  City Councilwoman Olivia Diaz at the East Las Vegas Library, 2851 E. Bonanza Rd.
  • Monday, July 26, 5:30 to 7 p.m. with Commissioner Segerblom at the Winchester Dondero Cultural Center Theater at 3130 McLeod Dr. in Las Vegas.

  • Tuesday, July 27, 9 to 10 a.m. with Commissioner Justin Jones and Nevada State Sen. Marilyn Dondero Loop at the Desert Breeze Community Center at 8275 Spring Mountain Rd. in Las Vegas.

  • Thursday, July 29, 10 to 11 a.m. with Commissioner Justin Jones at the Sandy Valley Community Center at 650 W Quartz Ave. in Sandy Valley. Staff from Congresswoman Susie Lee’s office will be in attendance.
More neighborhood meetings are planned and details will be announced as they are confirmed.

The County’s outreach includes stakeholder meetings, community meetings and online surveys that residents and non-profit administrators are invited to participate in through July 28 via the American Rescue Plan Act web pages. A series of public stakeholder meetings with County agencies and community partners will take place at the Clark County Government Center at 500 S. Grand Central Parkway in downtown Las Vegas:

  • Thursday, July 15 – Small Business and Workforce Training, 2-5 p.m. The board would like to receive information about the needs of small businesses and individuals requiring job training in order to re-enter the workforce.

  • Tuesday, July 20 – Health and Infrastructure, immediately following the conclusion of the County Commission meeting. The board is looking for information about the need for future investment in public health, water, sewer and broadband infrastructure.
Previously held meetings focused on:

Hard-Hit Communities and Assistance to Households. The board would like to receive information about the direct and immediate needs of households that were disproportionately and negatively affected by the pandemic.

Affordable Housing. The board is looking for information about shelter and housing needs, particularly among communities that were disproportionately and negatively affected by the pandemic.

More information about these efforts may be found at www.ClarkCountyNV.gov under American Rescue Plan Act.

“These federal resources are incredibly valuable,” said Clark County Commission Chairman Marilyn Kirkpatrick, “and community input is critically important as we formulate a robust plan that best addresses what we need to build a strong, equitable recovery for Southern Nevada.”

“The pandemic has been detrimental to so many Las Vegas-area families, particularly those in neighborhoods that were already hurting,” added Commissioner McCurdy. “We really need to focus this plan on serving the needs of the underserved and those who were disproportionately affected by the pandemic.”

Community stakeholders participating in the Government Center meetings should provide a brief overview of potential programs and services that may be funded using State and Local Fiscal Recovery Funds under the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA). Requests should include addressing housing, shelter, small business, unemployed, underemployed, workforce, public health, safety, water, sewer and broadband programs or services needed to address the challenges our hardest-hit communities are facing. Stakeholders should review the background materials pertinent to each meeting provided with the posted Clark County Commission agendas found at www.ClarkCountyNV.gov.

The Clark County Commission will receive a full report on the information gathered from community meetings, stakeholders and constituents to consider in developing the County’s Recovery Plan. The County is required to submit a Recovery Plan to the U.S. Treasury Department by Aug. 31 outlining how it will respond to the pandemic and promote economic recovery.

The Government Center stakeholder meetings will be aired lived on Clark County Television (CCTV) and streamed live at https://www.youtube.com/user/ClarkCountyNV/live, www.Facebook.com/ClarkCountyNV and www.Twitter.com/ClarkCountyNV. CCTV is available in the Las Vegas area on Channel 4/1004 on Cox cable and on CenturyLink on Channels 4 and 1004 as well as in Laughlin on Channel 14 via Suddenlink. CCTV is also available in Boulder City on Channel 4 and in Moapa Valley on Digital Channel 50.3. One may watch CCTV on streaming devices such as Roku, Apple TV and Amazon Fire TV via the YouTube app.
