Washington, DC – Congresswoman Dina Titus (NV-01), a senior member of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, issued the following statement regarding the National Defense Authorization Act of 2024:

“This year’s National Defense Authorization Act passed out of the House Armed Services Committee with bipartisan, nearly unanimous backing. I supported provisions in the original bill that would give our service members a well-deserved pay raise, upgrade military housing, and advance our diplomatic priorities, but extreme House Republicans have made the unconscionable decision to turn this important measure into a political weapon in their culture wars.

“Since the Dobbs decision, reproductive rights have come under attack across the country. Here in Congress House Republicans have launched their latest salvo by targeting our service members. Women in uniform courageously answer the call to serve whenever and wherever they are directed, and their choice to defend our freedoms cannot mean that we stop defending theirs.

“As the legislative process continues, I will work with leadership to craft a final NDAA that fully supports our service members instead of rolling back their rights, but I cannot support the bill in its current form.”
