The Kirk Kerkorian Medical Education Building (MEB) has been enhanced aesthetically by a University of Nevada, Reno art student.
Ellie Rush, a UNLV art major, painted a mural with the moniker “Better Together” that featured on the MEB’s third floor near the Dr. Barbara Atkinson Forum, according to a news release issued by the school. The painting is from the UNLV Kirk Kerkorian School of Medicine’s class of 2022.
Rush said the walls were calling to her to be decorated and uplift spirits,
“I said, ‘Look, I think you should do something inside. There are a lot of walls in that space, and we didn’t know what the plans were for art at the time,” Rush said in the release.
Ann Diggins, director of student affairs and career services, signed off on the painting as a gift that was decided on by the committee consisting of members of the main campus, art department and medical school. Among the themes for artwork was “diversity, inclusion and acceptance.”
Inspired by the healthcare’s community’s response to the pandemic, Rush set out to honor their hard work.
“Medical professionals truly shone during the outbreak,” said Rush.
Rush implemented soft pinks, reds and blues to paint the spirit of unity that brought the healthcare community together during that time.
