LVMPD corrections officer arrested on multiple charges including child abuse

A corrections officer with the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department (LVMPD), Gevaughn Murphy, was arrested on March 4, 2026. According to the LVMPD Office of Public Information, Murphy faces four counts of felony coercion with threat or use of physical force, one count of felony child abuse or neglect, and four counts of misdemeanor domestic battery.

Murphy has worked for the department since 2023 and is assigned to the Detention Services Division at the North Tower Bureau. Following his arrest, he will be suspended without pay while an investigation is ongoing.

Sheriff Kevin McMahill stated that “Murphy will be placed on suspension of police powers without pay pending further investigation.”
