The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department announced on April 9 that a vehicle collision resulting in one fatality occurred the previous night on North Hollywood Boulevard, south of East Bonanza Road. This incident marks the 37th traffic-related fatality within the department’s jurisdiction for the year.
According to police, the crash happened at approximately 10:29 p.m. on April 8 and involved two vehicles. A Pontiac Grand Prix was traveling southbound at a high rate of speed when it lost control while crossing Bonanza Road, rotated counterclockwise, and crossed into northbound lanes. The passenger side of the Pontiac struck the front of a GMC Sierra traveling northbound. After impact, authorities said, the GMC overturned onto its passenger side.
Medical personnel pronounced the driver of the Pontiac dead at the scene. Police identified him as a 23-year-old male from Las Vegas; his name is pending notification to next of kin. The driver and passenger in the GMC Sierra—identified as Jose Soto, age 20 from Henderson, and Perla Mondragon, age 21 from Las Vegas—were transported by ambulance to UMC Trauma with moderate and minor injuries respectively.
The Collision Investigation Section of Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department is continuing its investigation into this incident.
Police said this latest crash highlights ongoing concerns about road safety in Clark County as fatalities continue to rise this year.
