A reported attempted robbery in Las Vegas early Sunday morning resulted in a fatal shooting and left another person critically injured, according to the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department (LVMPD).

Police said that at approximately 12:39 a.m. on March 1, they received a report of two armed men near Lake Mead Boulevard and Nellis Boulevard. The call was later updated to indicate that shots had been fired.

When officers arrived at the scene, they found a male with gunshot wounds who was pronounced dead by medical personnel. Additional officers located another man, identified as 39-year-old Robert Aguilar Jr., in the 5000 block of Kell Lane. Aguilar had also suffered gunshot wounds and was taken to the hospital in critical condition.

The LVMPD Homicide Section responded to investigate. Detectives determined that the deceased victim had been openly carrying a firearm after leaving a nearby business when Aguilar allegedly approached him at gunpoint and demanded his weapon. According to police, both men exchanged gunfire.

Aguilar has been booked in absentia into the Clark County Detention Center on charges of Open Murder with a Deadly Weapon and Robbery with a Deadly Weapon.

The identity of the deceased individual, along with details regarding cause and manner of death, will be released by the Clark County Coroner’s Office.

Authorities are asking anyone with information about this incident to contact the LVMPD Homicide Section by phone or email. Anonymous tips can be submitted through Crime Stoppers at www.crimestoppersofnv.com or by calling 702-385-5555.
