This year, the City of Las Vegas has allocated $395,000 to support and maintain public art across the city. The Public Art and Gallery Program team is currently overseeing 13 active projects funded through the Percent for the Arts program, which redirects a portion of the capital improvement fund budget into arts initiatives each year.
Recently completed projects include several installations and murals: Medical District Sculpture Projects, Mirabelli Community Center Mural, Hualapai Canyon Trailhead Environmental Public Art Project, AMP Gateway and Arts Districts Project, Boulder Plaza Sculpture, two Civic Center Sculptures, Listos y Seguros Sculpture, AMP Utility Cabinet Painting Project, 3rd Street Sculpture Project, Heers Park Tile Mural, James Gay Park Public Art Project, and Centennial Hills Park Tile Mural.
Looking ahead, the Arts Commission has recommended new murals at various community sites. These include a large-scale mural at Stupak Community Center in the Gateway District to enhance its role as a neighborhood hub; a permanent mural on the west-facing wall of the new Arts District parking garage; an exterior mural at Cimarron Rose Community Center; a large-scale mural for Doolittle Pool’s surrounding brick wall; and a mural on Pop Squires Park’s concessions and restroom building in Ward 6.
The city continues to encourage artists to participate in upcoming opportunities. More information can be found at https://lasvegasnevada.gov/artsregistry.
