The city of Las Vegas sought nominations for the inaugural HONOR (Honrando Orgullosamente Nuestras Obras y Raíces) Latino Awards. The following awards will proudly recognize the achievements of community leaders and trailblazers who have made outstanding civic accomplishments and contributions to the Las Vegas Community. Nominations closed Sept. 9, 2022.
1. Outstanding Athlete Award
Honoring an exceptional Latino athlete who has represented Las Vegas in athletic competition in a commendable manner. An athlete whose sportsmanship has brought repute to their sport and high regard to the individual and their community.
Conditions for nomination:
Local Latino student- athletes from all sports are eligible for nomination.
2. Advancing Arts & Culture Award
Honoring a Las Vegas community member who is passionate about and dedicated to advancing Latino arts & culture.
Conditions for nomination:
Nominees have a history of highlighting awareness and access to Latino arts & culture, and are passionate about increasing arts & culture programming relevant to the Latino community of Las Vegas. Artists, art activists, gallery owners, art organizations, and other individuals involved with arts & culture are eligible for nomination.
3. Business and Economic Advancement Award
Honoring a local business professional who has displayed entrepreneurial character, high standards, innovative professional practice and ongoing committed support of the Latino community.
Conditions for nomination:
Local business owners and/or local businesses that have had a positive impact on the Latino community are eligible for nomination.
4. Advancing Equity Award
Honoring a community activist striving to advance equity for all via their work with the Latino community of Las Vegas.
Conditions for nomination:
Nominees embody community empowerment and have a longstanding history of community engagement to organize and mobilize efforts in any of the following fields and/or intersectional areas affecting the Latino community:
Economic justice, environmental justice, equity for people with disabilities, equity for people previously incarcerated, food insecurity, health equity, homelessness, immigrant rights, language accessibility, LGBTQIA+ rights, mental health advocacy, missing and murdered indigenous women awareness, racial justice, social justice and veteran resources.
5. Outstanding Health Care Provider & First Responder Award
Honoring a Latino health care provider or first responder who continues to care for our community, and whose dedication and commitment to our health exemplifies courage, empathy and leadership.
Conditions for nomination: All health care providers and first responders with strong ties to the Latino community are eligible.
6. Emerging Leader Award
Honoring an up-and-coming leader who has demonstrated a commitment to leadership and substantial potential for innovation, creativity, vision and positive influence.
Conditions for nomination: Latino youth and adults who, in a short period, have shown impressive promise and exceptional leadership abilities in a new focus area or endeavor are eligible.
7. Spiritual Community Trailblazer Award
Honoring a spiritual leader with a legacy of transcending organizational boundaries to promote spiritual and religious growth, partnership and engagement through inspired action and visionary leadership.
Conditions for nomination:
Leaders of spiritual organization services and support to the Latino community of Las Vegas are eligible for nomination.
8. Educating Our Community Trailblazer Award
Honoring a Latino educator and their longstanding dedication to mentor, guide and support Las Vegas students to achieve their full potential.
Conditions for nomination: Latino educators who exemplify commitment to their students and families during a period of unprecedented challenges and demands are eligible for nomination. This award is open to all educator roles in the greater Las Vegas area, including teachers, instructors, and administration.
9. Outstanding Leadership Trailblazer Award
Honoring a community member with a rich and vibrant history of leadership and contribution to the Las Vegas Latino community. Leaders who created a legacy of impactful service and outstanding inspiration for future generations.
Conditions for Nomination: Nominees lead by example, enthusiastically empower others, and have the upmost dedication to working alongside the Latino community. Leaders have led efforts with great results and positive impacts on the Latino community of Las Vegas.
