Harbor & Community Partners Hosting Family Engagement Day in Laughlin on Saturday

The Harbor, Clark County’s Social Service Department and AccessHealth Dental are hosting a free family engagement day, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, March 25, at Laughlin Junior and Senior High School, 1900 Cougar Drive.

The effort is part of a new mobile outreach program to bring the Harbor and other support services to youth and families in rural areas of Clark County. Harbor staff will have games, raffles, snacks and other activities for kids. AccessHealth Dental will have its mobile clinic on site to offer free dental checkups and screenings from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. during the event. The Harbor offers a variety of services to help youth and families including tutoring, counseling, healthcare, substance abuse treatment, job training, mentoring, life skills and parenting classes, and recreational opportunities.

“We are excited to bring the Harbor and some of its partnering organizations on the road to Laughlin,” said Clark County Commissioner Michael Naft. “Our goal is to meet with families, learn about their needs, and help connect them and their children with services. In some cases, online and telehealth services may be options. We also want to partner with schools and organizations in Laughlin and the surrounding area so we can tailor programs and services to the needs of the community as we work to build this new service.”

The Harbor began as a diversion program in 2016 to prevent youth from entering the juvenile justice system by helping parents cope with problem behavior or delinquency before issues potentially escalate into more serious troubles. Signs that children may need help include depression, anxiety, drug or alcohol use, isolation, bullying, delinquency or changes in behavior.  The program also assists parents deal with needs families may have through community service providers. More information is available on the program’s website at www.theharborlv.com or by calling (702) 455-0112.
