Dina Titus, a U.S. Congresswoman representing Nevada’s 1st district since 2013, marked several heritage and awareness observances in a series of tweets this week.
On May 5, Titus posted a message celebrating Mexican American culture and Cinco de Mayo: “¡Feliz Cinco de Mayo! Today we recognize the heritage and culture of Mexican Americans who enrich our lives #OnlyInDistrictOne. Go out and celebrate responsibly at #TacosandBeer, #LaVecindad, #LaMojarraLoca, #DonaMariaTamales, or lots of other fun places and fiestas! #CincoDeMayo https://t.co/tNYAMYgFSl”.
Later that same day, she acknowledged Jewish American Heritage Month with a call to action against antisemitism: “May is Jewish American Heritage Month. We must recommit to fighting antisemitism with the urgency it demands and honor the many contributions of Jewish leaders in education, politics, the arts, and commerce #OnlyinDistrictOne and beyond. https://t.co/QPePrw32co”.
On May 6, Titus highlighted her legislative focus during Mental Health Awareness Month: “This Mental Health Awareness Month, I am fighting to ensure that everyone #OnlyInDistrictOne has access to affordable mental healthcare services. I am supporting the Parity Enforcement Act to ensure health plans offer equal benefits for mental health treatments as they do for https://t.co/u0KXB7u57J”.
Titus was born in Thomasville, Georgia in 1950 and has lived in Las Vegas throughout her congressional tenure. She previously served in the Nevada Senate from 1988 to 2008 before succeeding Shelley Berkley in Congress. Titus holds a BA from the College of William & Mary.
