The College of Fine Arts (CFA) at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV) will host an open house called Creative Collaborations on Nov. 16.

The UNLV CFA was established in 1992 and is “one of the nation’s largest fine arts colleges,” according to a news release from the university. Associated departments include film, theater, music, architecture, entertainment engineering and design, art, and dance. The Nevada Conservatory Theatre, Marjorie Barrick Museum of Art, and Performing Arts Center are affiliated with the college.

“Arts research, integrated within disciplines such as medicine, engineering, and hospitality, illuminates aspects of knowledge creation that will enhance the human experience,” Nancy Uscher, dean of CFA, said in the news release. “It is important for our peers, our community, and our stakeholders to recognize and celebrate the many ways in which the arts, and specifically arts-related research, lead to an expansion of knowledge within many fields.”

The objective is that the college will become a global destination that shows “the power of the arts amidst breathtaking advancements in science and technology,” the press release noted.

“Interdisciplinary and cross-disciplinary research are integral to the development of a creative workforce,” Stephen Caplan, music professor and founder of the CFA Clinic for Health and Injury Prevention, said in the news release. “These partnerships further the college’s mission of scholarship and innovation, while better preparing our students for long and fulfilling careers in the arts.”

The open house will “offer examples of arts research and its effect within multiple disciplines,” according to the news release. Admission to the event is free.
